Deep Rock Galactic’s new prop hunt mode is cute, even if no-one will play it with me

In a fresh update hitting the cooperative space mining adventure, Deep Rock Galactic, players find both the resolution to numerous pesky bugs and an invitation to indulge in some light-hearted mischief. Alongside squashing these glitches, the developers have brewed up a special treat in the game's lounge area – the all-new Hidden Dwarf Double IPA. This isn't just any drink; consuming it kickstarts a whimsical game of prop hunt right within the confines of the space rig, transforming tipsy dwarves into inanimate objects for a game of hide and seek.

The intricate environment of the space rig, with its clutter of equipment and alleyways, is unexpectedly perfect for such a game. Every nook can be a hiding spot, and the usual chaos of scattered gear adds a layer of intrigue. Was that barrel always there, or is it one of your comrades in disguise? This ambiguity adds an appealing layer of strategy to the game.

However, finding participants willing to dive into the fun has proved somewhat challenging. Many players seem to prefer launching straight into their mining missions or sticking to their routine of consuming stat-boosting brews. This reluctance is akin to bringing a social game to the office – not everyone is immediately onboard for impromptu entertainment amidst their usual tasks.

In addition to this playful update, the maintenance patch brings under-the-hood enhancements, detailed in the Steam patch notes. Among the fixes is a long-awaited correction to the enemy bug armor, which reportedly hadn't been working as intended. This issue has now been addressed, ensuring a balanced challenge for players across all difficulty levels.

The inclusion of features like the prop hunt game was traditionally reserved for significant seasonal updates. However, with Season 5 pushed back to June 2024, it seems these smaller patches will be the trend for the near future. This delay will allow Ghost Ship Games to dedicate efforts to developing the roguelike offshoot, Deep Rock Galactic: Rogue Core, and to assist with Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor, brought to life by Funday Games.

This blend of refinement and innovative leisure breathes fresh air into Deep Rock Galactic, promising players both enhanced gameplay and whimsical diversions.
