As a notable figure in the gaming industry, a Japanese game developer is marking a significant milestone in its journey. This company has created beloved franchises like Kirby, Super Smash Bros, and Earthbound. Founded on February 21, 1980, by Mitsuhiro Ikeda, it initially concentrated on home computer games. Within a few years, it established a partnership with Nintendo, which would become a defining relationship in its history.
Over the decades, this developer has delivered a multitude of iconic games and characters. It played an integral part in the development of timeless NES titles like Pinball, Golf, and Balloon Fight. Masahiro Sakurai made his entrance into the company through Kirby's Dream Land, introducing the charming pink character, Kirby. Since that debut, Kirby has starred in almost 40 games, solidifying his place as a lasting emblem of the studio.
In addition to the Kirby franchises, the developer has also contributed to several other significant projects. As the new millennium approached, it introduced titles like Pokémon Snap and Pokémon Pinball, which provided innovative takes on the Pokémon universe at that time. Although the team hasn't produced a new game in the last couple of years, with Return to Dream Land Deluxe being their latest release, there are expectations for an exciting return of Kirby, possibly coinciding with the anticipated Switch 2 launch later this year.
Shinya Kumazaki, the in-house product leader for the Kirby series, shared his appreciation for the fans in a message on a social media platform.
