Avery the Poké Kid’s Father Calls on The Pokémon Company to Create a Trading Card in Memory of His Son
The father of late Pokémon influencer Avery the Poké Kid is asking The Pokémon Company to design a special card to remember his son.
Avery the Poké Kid was a well-known and upbeat presence in the Pokémon Trading card gaming community. He passed away in September 2026 at age 12 after a seven-year struggle with pancreatic cancer, and he later went viral when, a few days later, his family posted footage of him opening his last card pack his death, showing him thrilled to pull a 30th Anniversary Jirachi SIR card.
Now, his father is making a public request to The Pokémon Company to create a special card in Avery’s memory.
On November 6, Christian Garcia, Avery’s father, shared an emotional video on Instagram with a heartfelt request to preserve his son in the hobby he loved most.
Trying to work out how to keep moving forward Avery’s legacy has been the biggest challenge over the past few months," Garcia said. “…I want to reach out to absolutely anyone at The Pokémon Company—literally anyone: If you’re seeing this video, I want to figure out how to preserve him somehow in the the collectible card game he cherished deeply.
That kid truly was the picture of a Pokémon champion, and we’re optimistic, and I believe it would be absolutely incredible thing to open a pack of cards and chase our son. If someone at The Pokémon Company is seeing this, please reach out to us.
Fans and fellow collectors are going to great lengths to ensure they can to bring The Pokémon Company’s attention to the request, with many saying it would make sense for his card to be some version of Jirachi, given the viral pull that spread across social media after his death.
Avery’s emotional Jirachi pull also drew attention from the card’s artist, who posted a moving reaction to the news on her Twitter/X account. I’m so deeply moved. I’I'm so happy I kept drawing. Honestly, I've been in tears since I saw this, she said. I want my art to make people feel joy. That's one of the reasons I create. I'm really glad I poured that wish into this piece.
This newest message from Avery’s father comes after a September statement from the family in response to resellers driving up the price of the 30th Anniversary Jirachi SIR card because of his viral video.
We have no involvement in, and receive no benefit from, any cards sold using Avery’s name or image. These sales were never authorized by us. We have already requested that sellers remove their listings, and we ask that they be taken down at once. This is not a tribute to Avery’s kind and generous spirit. We are grieving the loss of our son and tending to our children. Please allow us to do that in peace, they wrote then.
