Understanding Venture

Understanding Venture

Venture wields a powerful drill that launches short-range explosives, detonating after a set distance or upon impact with a target or surface. This unique weapon also grants Venture a slightly more potent melee attack, albeit with an extended animation duration. They can tunnel underground to evade harm and inflict damage when resurfacing. Venture can also perform a drill charge, both above and below ground. Their ultimate ability, Tectonic Shock, sends out subterranean projectiles in a cone pattern, damaging any foes in their path.

Venture's Arsenal

  • Smart Excavator: Fire a seismic charge that explodes after traveling a short distance.
  • Burrow: Traverse underground to avoid damage and inflict harm upon emergence.
  • Drill Dash: Propel forward, repelling adversaries. When used underground, the cooldown is reduced.
  • Clobber passive: Enhanced quick melee damage.
  • Explorer's Resolve: Gain temporary shields when using abilities.
  • Tectonic Shock ultimate: Release powerful underground shockwaves.

Engage and Evade

Venture shares similarities with Reaper, favoring close-range combat. To thrive as a Venture, you must boldly confront enemy lines while maintaining an escape strategy. Fortunately, Venture is equipped with two mobility skills: Drill Dash and Burrow. Drill Dash propels Venture forward, causing damage on collision. Burrow offers temporary invulnerability and deals damage upon resurfacing. It's advisable to preserve one mobility skill for engaging and another for retreating.

Burrow is particularly effective for withdrawal due to its invulnerability effect. However, be mindful of the brief vulnerability period during the initial animation of this ability. Additionally, Venture's passive ability grants temporary shields after using a skill, allowing for a bit more aggressiveness.

Precision Aiming

Engage and Evade

Venture's primary weapon, the Smart Excavator, fires explosives that detonate either after a set distance or upon striking a target. For maximum impact, aim for direct hits, though the projectile's travel time can make this challenging. To ensure consistent damage, target the ground or nearby objects, like the payload. The explosive's range is limited, requiring close proximity for optimal effect.

Unleashing Tectonic Shock

Venture's ultimate, Tectonic Shock, is a formidable area-of-effect attack. It consists of four underground projectiles that spread in a cone formation, damaging enemies in their trajectory. Since it travels beneath surfaces, it can bypass shields and environmental obstacles. This ultimate is most effective when used against clustered enemies who have already sustained some damage. Thus, it's best saved for later in a team fight rather than as an opener.

Additional Venture Strategies

  • Be cautious with Venture's melee attack, as its increased damage is offset by a longer animation, which could leave you exposed.
  • Temporary shields from ability use don't activate for Burrow until you're fully underground, leaving a brief moment of vulnerability.
  • Drill Dash deals less damage when used while Burrowed.
  • While exiting Burrow, you can charge the emergence by holding down the button, dealing increased damage but potentially allowing foes to evade.
